Great report. Really looks as a great event. Great accomplishment for a start. Will consider to attend next year.
There were certainly a lot of your counrymen there this year, though I think the Peak District hills came as a bit of a shock to some of them!

2013 was the first time that I as a flatlander went to Retro Ronde van Vlaanderen. I did not have the faintest idea about mountain gearing or whatsoever. This year was easy and fun to climb those steep hills. Fail to plan is plan to fail but you cant blame the ignorant

Cracking report sums it up very well :)

I rode with a club mate(we both dabble in racing) so have good level of fitness we got round in 6hr 32 actual ride time was 5hr 44..

Think we were first in on the 100 but all pretty mixed up with the 50 mile guys so not sure..

Not an issue it was the best 100 miles I've done on a bike :D

That is an impressive pace ...

A note on the pre-87 stuff ... I saw plenty of bikes with aero brake cable routing and a few with clipless pedals but there was no enforcement of the "rules" so it was pretty much a matter for each rider to consider ...

Not sure exactly when I bought them but it was certainly sometime in the mid to late 80s I bought the exage aero levers that were on my Gran Course till I tweaked it for this ride with a set of Golden Arrow levers. Also looking a photos of early to mid 80s bike races looks like aero brakes were certainly starting to appear around 83 or 84 and by 87, the cut off for eroic bikes, were pretty much the normal kit on pro bikes. So I think if they were running early aero they were certainly period correct if not within the letter of of the rules. Unlike the Lush cosmetics crew! While they did have some great old bikes there was a Triban 3, one that looked rarther like it was full carbon and even a mountain bike!

Triban 3s are cult bikes and likely to be desirable in a few decades. I'd give them a pass.

Yup, my 10 year old loves her Triban 3 Junior and was eyeing up a 45cm red Triban 3 last time we were in Decathlon, she still needs to grow another couple of inches for one those but won't be long.

here you go ... gives an overview of my weekend ...

Great report, we didn't ride but had a weekend camping and enjoying the festival.
It was a fantastic weekend, helped by the weather.
We're riding next year, dressed up on town bikes, that'll be the short route then...

The atmosphere was top notch, respect to the riders who all got a cheer for their heroic efforts. Brilliant.

We even made it onto one of Montellos pics, 103, with the Mrs, the in laws and the dogs at a picnic bench.

Very much looking forward to next year.
I heard the site had been secured for the next 4 years pending interest at this 1st Eroica, I guess that's the next 4 years in the Peaks guaranteed.

Yep from what I understand the orginal deal with the original Italian Eroica on use of the name, branding and the likes was 5 years, though given how much fun the Italian crowd seemed to have I suspect it may become a regular fixture on the global vintage cycling calendar. Pretty amazing how many of the riders had come to the UK just for this.
