Lemond TSX "Z Team Replica"

Re:

Seems like a slightly odd feature to add to what was supposed to be a team replica bike.

Replica is the key word. All those hot hatches that are styled like rally cars still have stereos.

But still, specified by Lemond, built by Bilato Bro's, I would have thought a pump mount was about the last 'feature' they would consider.

That said, mine will have all age related parts fitted, including rims and tubs, so I guess a pump could be useful (if I didn't have CO2).

While I'm talking about mine. Anyone have any bright ideas as to the best way to fill in the security number the last owner had etched into the top tube.

The numbers really have some depth to them, so I thought cocktail stick some primer in to fill the depth and then try to colour match, but I'd love to hear better ideas, as this has really held up the build.

Wow that really is the worst possible place for a security number!

Is it a chemical etch? I think they're designed so you can't do much to cover them up

Tell me about it.

I think it might be a laser, as the inside is all black. I suppose I could try dripping some primer in there to see what happens.

I was thinking that maybe an air brush specialist might be able to help, there are a couple in the area.

I'd be tempted to just leave it tbh. Be really hard to cover it up without it being noticeable at all, and it runs the risk of looking worse for the effort. Build it, ride it and add your own scars!

Re:

A bit of filler in the letters to make a smooth profile and then a sticker on top, say a period mavic/campag/shimano label. Not ideal, but as it is, it looks a real schoolboy error that will continue to annoy you as you use the bike ..... well it would me

The last owner had it done when he lived in London, so I think it was probably put there as much as a theft deterrent as anything.

It is annoying, but maybe I'll just build it and ride it, as matching the colour will be tricky.
