halfords do a bike care plan
£20 for a years worth of labour

although it would be upto the individual mechanic or whatever to charge you more for the parts not being from there
i.e if you want everything on your bike changing for the stuff you bought online - for £20

Halfords mechanics, sorry 'mechanics' levered off the upper race to my chris king headset using a flat bladed screwdriver
You should have see the state of it

 i hope they replaced it!
some of the halfords branches most certainly do hire some rather unskilled staff

Why would anyone into bikes take anything into Halfords for repair? They've not exactly got the best reputation and there's plenty of independent shops around.

I don't get it.

Thought I wasn't far off with my quote for the work to a customer

You would have thought I'd set fire to his car and pushed it off a cliff with his wife and kids in it the way he reacted when I told him £25-£30

Nothing was bought in store, not even the bike he rolled into the store (ignoring the 'Please take all repairs to the workshop door at the back' sign on the front door) with a carrier bag on the bars with the other chainset & BB in it

I estimated about 30 mins work in case it was gonna be a pain in the ass, so quoted £25-£30

But the customer came out with the 'it'll only take two minutes' line, I politely inflamed him that it would not take 'just two minutes' and that we couldn't do it until next week as we had a mechanic off this week.

If at least something was bought in store the price would have been lower, or even free, hell if he can do that job in two minutes he'd be better off setting up his own shop. Mind you with his idea of pricing the business wouldn't last long

I was new to cycling, and halfords quoted £20 to send off my bomber to windwave[or whoever :? ] to be serviced. It was the cheapest option and i thought it would be ok as it was another company actually doing the work :?

Lessons learned ;)

My local bike shop did a crank and BB swap from one frame to another for £7 for me. Saterday boy did it although he's a proper biker who takes pride in his own expensive customised bike so there's no worry of a poor job.

There doing another one in a few days so i'll let you know if the price has changed since easter. :)

Oh and on the halfords note, I was forced to use them last Tuesday to fit a bottom cone onto a new pair of forks and it wasn't level so I had to take it back on Wednesday for them to redo.
