Kona U'hu - cracked frame - sell in bits or as one?

Hi there, I'm only recently on here as I have got back into mountain biking with a Kona U'hu I got from ebay a few years ago.

I bought a new shock for it last month as the one on it was quite dead (although someone still bought it on ebay as non-working).

I've noticed a small crack on the rear sub frame on one of the points where the frame is welded to a pivot point. I've found this can be reapired, but I'm wondering whether to just get a new bike instead. I went to Cwncarn on the weekend and compared to a few of the bikes my mates were riding I felt a bit out-gunned!

So the question is do you think it's better to try and sell the bike in it's entirety, or is it better splitting to sell? I'm not necessarily looking to do this now - I'd be doing a new £1k bike to work scheme at some point.

The bike is I think either a 97 or 98 U'hu. Got Bomber z1 Drop offs (2000), a Rockshox Bar rear shock, Avid V brakes, wheels are Mavic xc type rims with Kona hubs, groupset is xt / lx.

Quoted weight when new was 27.5lbs - although the forks are probably heavier than the originals (Z2 BAMS) along with the tyres etc.

Not a bad bike - and certainly given me the mountain bike bug again. Even managed to obtain an HS33 front Magura to fit to it this week - just a bit concerned about the frame!

If you don't have a decent old hard tail I would highly recommend swapping parts over to an older properly sized kona frame. Go steel, they crack less.

And get a new dual suspension bike! I had a 1996 Sex One, similar frame to yours. Upgraded to a Kona Dawg, and then Ibis Mojo Hd.... oh man, the ibis rocks!

I've got a boardman team or pro fs on order, not sure which - long and bizarre story. Should find out tomorrow what has arrived!

Leaves with wondering whether to have a go at selling the Kona as it is, or stripping it down and selling all the bits. Have toyed with just selling the frame / rear shock and swapping the bits to a cheap small ish hardtail, but not sure I could justify a third bike as I have a racer as well!

Thanks for the comments. Going to put up a for sale post soon with the option to either buy the full bike, or buy bits of it. Has decent retro forks and a fairly good new ish shock etc.
