Kona Misser replica 1997

Couple of new (to this thread at least) pictures. I'm mulling over what cranks to get. Since this isn't a 100% catalogue or 100% Tomi build, I'm swerving to the RaceFace cranks, especially if I could source a matching Syncros seatpost, seen here rather than the weedy looking silver Sugino (?) cranks...

Bingo! The hardest part is done - what a relief!

It was a pleasure (!) stripping down the Intense and fitting/checking the components I bought it for: wheels, brakes and calipers. I had a minor heart attack when I took the front bolt off the Intense: it looked larger than what I have on the Bombers. Thankfully it was a trick of the eye, and they slid on perfectly. The second part was validating my measurements were right, and the calipers would fit. That passes with a couple of fist bumps. All I need is a longer bolt and a some spacers for the rear to fit as snuggly as the front.

Needless to say this is in mock-up mode but woah, she looks like an absolute weapon 👍😘

I'll adjust the spacers at the front so the top plate is back flush with the adjustment knobs. I can use the Xlite spacers that the Intense had. The tyres are shot and with the aformentioned rear brake adjustments, the brakes need bleeding, and the brake cable routed properly.

@player mentioned that the BB is high, and it is. It's how they were and once you have a nice big chainring, it should distract...as I was reliably informed by another mate.

Next, source the appropriate cranks/BB set-up....and move on the lump of aluminium!

Coming on nicely

That bb is quite high to be fair, what length shock is on it at the moment? looks long.

And would have had that M1 frame off of you if I had the funds right now.

Brilliant build that buddy, Misser rep and turner early dh bikes are one of my must haves at some point
I’m really interested in the M1 frame as always wanted a early edition one

Minor update in preparation for this months Malvern's Classic:

- Sourced a M950 rear mech, arrived, is M952 👎. About to pull the trigger on another one.
- Adjusted the top-plate of the forks so they sit flush with the top of the fork legs, put on the X Lite spacers and top cap (steerer tube needs a few MM taken off for it sit flush).
- Scored a pair of super-cool tyres in great condition. Just finalising the shipping details. One are just about period correct, the other are not but may be used for running purposes.
- Purchased the bolts and spacers to fit the rear caliper
- IF there's any budget this month I'll hit the trigger for a M950 cassette

For cranks, I'm torn between M950 DH or RaceFace DH. Both cost an arm and a leg but I'm leaning to them over anything else for aesthetic and running reasons.

I'm still searching for quality seat-posts (found 1, costs a fortune, not X Lite so unlikely to purchase) and saddle (the SDG and X Lite examples that have come to market have been too rough), plus a mark 1 Hope rear skewer in red or silver (again, the examples found are too rough).

Finally, I have feelers out to help get the skull and cross-bone headtube gusset decal recreated.

How much get's done before the end of the month is up to the lap of the gods and how flexible my wallet is 🤣

So here we are. She got a lot of looks and more conversation at the Malverns Classic this year than last year.

Look a little closer and there's still a lot to do, and the project is somewhat cursed.

The seller who claimed their mech was M950 absolutely isn't. M952 grey is slightly darker, but I fitted it for show, nothing else. The tyres, NOS Hutchinson Squale and Maxxis Lopes Bling Bling (to run) were lost by Evri. The seat-post is great but arrived 2 days too late for the event 🤣 Oh, and the rear rotor is too small; it needs to be 180mm not 160mm.

Still, she looks epic:

The shopping list remains long...

Coming together nicely.

BB still looking high, shock looks long from here, a shorter one would lower the bb. Original was a 165mm from what I've seen.
