Kona Ku Serial Number List - update 20/12/24

Re:

Rightyho, thanks go out once again to Alasdair for bringing another Ku to my attention for the Serial Number List.

It would appear that the Warranty replacement end of season Hodaka built Mustard Yellow Ku that he found last year is not a one-off. This time a lovely Eggshell Blue sparkle example with the same serial number format.

I have listed it as a 17", as the Head Tube seems to be the same 110mm length as an 18", but with slightly more Top Tube / Down Tube intersection.

The blue 98 is mine (sorry, I rarely ever come here).. I can confirm it is a 17".

I've sent some Hot and Hei Hei info to Alasdair as well, so you can update those threads as well.. Enjoy !

Indeed you have so mega thanks for that. Pip is a bit poorly at the moment but I'm sure he'll get to the email in his inbox with the details you kindly shared.

Re:

Hello, I'm new here. I bought this bike a couple of years ago. I didn't know a lot about it except that the original owner used it for xc competitions. I looked on some of the forums trying to figure out more information about the bike, but never found a serial number even close to the one I have, so I gave up. Anyway, I was working on it today and decided to search again. I found this thread, and finally the mystery is solved! The serial number is H9a00505. I'm posting a picture for your list. I've really enjoyed this little bike a lot.

Re:

Hello and welcome to Retrobike.

Thank you very much for posting a picture of your 1998 Kona Ku - it looks like a 16" to me.

Your serial number shows that this was built by Hodaka right at the end of production. Kona told me that a few sets of the Columbus Altec2 Megatube were sent to Hodaka, which may have been to honour the orders after the Contract with Enigma ended.

If you are able to take an in focus picture of the Serial number, I will be able to add it as confirmed to the Serial Number list on page 7.

Many thanks.

Superb! 3 is the magic number.

Re:

Thank you for the information about my bike! I had wondered what year it was.
Here's a picture of the serial number. Hopefully you can make it out- I had to take a screenshot of the actual picture in order to get it below the 3 MB limit.
