Echoing the comments above this is turning out well. Some carefully applied lacquer will protect the touch ups. Just looking at the original blue, it really is lovely so kudos for keeping it that way.
Thanks for the comments everyone. Most of the touch up work is done now, but I need to treat a couple of small areas with kurust. Just debating whether to go for a full clear coat but will check with Hendersons on that.
A few other issues in that my rear wheel from the Kona (currently on another bike) has died so need a new Shimano m570 rear hub and mavic x221 rim. I want to keep the same kit to match the rest of the bike and dont want to have to buy a complete new wheel set. Also the rear shifter has gone too so again looking at some LX ones.
Finally the Columbus tubing badge arrived, will be the finishing touch on the frame.

Not much progress as of late due to various other stuff.
But did manage to clean up my Marzocchi's and see how they look with the frame

Also bought some Avid SD7 brakes and levers, new rear wheel (lx & x217), plus decals from konaben. Got a Cane Creek 40 headset too which is a lovely bit of kit and the blue on it will match the general colour scheme. Glad to sort the rear wheel so it matches the front. Bit miffed about my cranks though. Polished up some LX m569 as per original spec and have been using them on another bike. After the first ride they were scuffed badly from heel rub. ARGH!

Bump to this thread - and a bit selfishly - did you get it finished? If so, would you mind posting up a few pic's of the touched up (ooo er) areas? I may or may not have a new project on the horizon that may or may not be a 20" version of this that may or may not need some touch up action. So I may or may not need to see how good the Revell metallic blue paint works

Wicked! Thanks, I should have remembered it since I posted on it. What's the full name/number of the touch up paint?
I managed to source one from the states for 80 nicker: frame, tb forks, stem, collar and seat post. Fingers crossed it makes it over in one piece.

Wow sounds like you have a bargain, hoping too it arrives safe for you and looking forward to some photos. Afraid my 19" is a bit too small so may have to go for a layback post on it. I would quite like a 20" alloy Kona to match though.
The paint was not revel but humbrol metallic moonlight blue no 222 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Humbrol-Metalli ... B0013BNMKA
photos here of how it looks compared to original paint. Seems pretty tough too although not given it a wash since I did it.

That's ace - it's never totally perfect but that's as close as you can get it I reckon (without mixing one with a professional painter). Thank you!
