Magura's now there's a thought. What model was in use back in 97/98? Would the cable stops be an issue at all?

HS22 / HS33 - race line, 10th anni. I would look for a set in good working order, maybe not cosmetical perfect. Than remove the powder coat and polish it to a nice finish. The neon yellow of the race lines maybe doesn't match the rest of the bike, but thats only my two cents.

No problem if the cable stops are not suited for Maguras brake lines, there are solutions available to mount the lines, either from Magura themselfes or from Jagwire, BBB, aso.

MBUK would have a lot of pics as it was used by their team that year wasn't it? Hence Will Longden riding it on Chainspotting? Or am I muddling history here?!

You're not - it was used in that :)

Food for thought definitely. I like to keep things original but I've always been curious to try them.

First things first, let's get the frame over here in one piece.

fingers crossed, that the frame will arrive in one piece.

Maguras are def. worth trying - easy to install, great brake performance, service free - especially in the british inviroment very handy when it turns into muddy conditions, and also Maguras are kind of OE - in 96 most of the (topend) Konas had them :wink

Re:

Looking forward to this build a lot! Judging by your others this will look great when finished.

When I was building my 97 Kilauea I thought xtr m950 groupset in grey would match the blue frame and similar coloured P2 forks really well. For rims Mavic x517 SUP CDs as mentioned by konaben would complete the look. May as well get ti seatpost, stem and bars too!

These wheels would look cool. http://forums.mtbr.com/wheels-tires/my- ... 94206.html

Anyway that was my over the top dream build but the original stock LX cranks are really light and look a treat polished up. My hubs are m570 lx which are a cool blue/grey colour which again match really well and are light and functional. I have avid arch rivals which are very impressive compared to normal V's although maguras is a good shout.

I used to have a 97 catalogue too (why did I throw it?!) and still have a magazine review of the '97 Kilauea. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/u ... ums/dyson/

Hope it arrives safe.

Cheers and thanks for this!

All the wheel advice is good - nothing really tickles my fancy that's on sale at the moment. I'm a stickler for good quality and everything is a bit too worn for me. Something nice will crop up though.

Re:

Was just about to split my 97 and part ways, but after reading this thread
am slightly more reluctant to do so. Will tune back in on updates.

Al- I saw that frame on the bay for sometime, glad you worked it out

<vulture mode on>

I'll take the wheels if they're good

<vulture mode off>

;)

(I have the same on the Manomano and they've been faultless)
