Kona Kapu 1994 - pastures new

Re: Kona Kapu 1994 - wheely annoying (P3 woe)

if it's a campag hub, there is a specific tool to compress the pawls while installing the cassette body.

I had the same problem a while ago. I ended up binning the hub because it was pretty shot though.

Thankfully this one is fine - just needed a very good clean. Fingers crossed all the same.

Only italians would take a coat hanger, bend it a funny shape and call it a proper tool.

My thoughts exactly!

So the infamous tool is not available anywhere on line. However it looks like I'll have something similar coming my way later this week along with a replacement lock-nut. The nut is about 7-8mm so wider than a normal one and has a tiny grub screw in it. Mine looks like it's on the verge of failing so the chap I found who has one, also has a tool to hold the pawls. Fingers crossed it works otherwise it will be a home-made wire contraption!

In other news, another 1995 version is for sale in Canada. It's another useful resource to compare mine to. You can see more clearly the difference in the detail; the seat-tube decal and top tube decals, the road version of the Velocity steam, Impact headset, top tube routing, seat-post (this looks like the o-beam from later years), direct mounted front mech and slightly more modern (one year) Veloce kit. I have, IMO, nicer more shiny Veloce and I know the stem I have, I think, is the one they used on the Haole but I'd kill for that Velocity!
