thanks for your input @murphy79 ! will take a close look at the head tube and welds. very excited for my first steel Kona since my '98 Lava Dome was stolen as a teenager. agreed those modern P2's won't work out. i have a few sets of period correct P2's that i'm hoping will fit. there is also a period correct P2 and a Judy XC included with sale.

It's 100% a 1994 frame with the SN placing it near the start of the production run.

Defo not 18". The headtube and gap between the top and down tube is too large.

Out of interest what is the difference between 94 and 95 model?

I have a 97 model. Yours looks to be a 95 with ribbed down tube. Unlikely to be a fake, serial looks legit.
You will have fun renovating, choosing a colour will be a challenge!
