kona headset colour

Anthony, looking at my 97 Explosif in the catalogue it has a black headset, would it have come with a black or silver one in the UK? I have ordered a new silver one but I could still change to black. What is your humble opinion being the font of all Kona knowledge! Cheers, Trevor.

Well I think black would look fine with your colour scheme myself. They all came with black headsets in 97, and even mix and match was sanctified.

But I have exactly the same seat post as below that I bought for my blue Kilauea, fitted it and thought shucks that looks fn terrible! So it's got a silver Syncros instead (27.2 natch) and I actually think that would look better on the Hot as well. But just a personal opinion, no more nor less valid than Wold Ranger's!

Kona

That spec' is weird and typical of OE buck shaving!! XTR group, but cheap stem and Forks! The Forks even are Canti compat' bottom end Rockshox! Why not Syncros stem? Black Sid or Manitou Forks? Wonder what the bars were too? A lot of money was made from after market components and a Madison rep once told me a lot of even top bikes were always down specced in some areas so riders were tempted to upgrade after purchase! The Mags' still bang on about complete bikes being better value--sure they are, but Whats the point when half the bits get swapped later?

The Hot was basically sold as a frame, used to cost £800 here, hand-built in the US and custom-painted (Explosif was £500), so the photo was just intended as an illustration really, mainly showing you one of the stock paint options.

It was also sold as a complete bike in the US with Z2s, XT and Kona kit for $2,300 (c.f., Explosif was $1,650 with Indy SLs and similar kit).

I only showed you the pic so as to give you the opportunity to disagree with me over the black seat post.
