Kona decal question/different market different decal style?

Time has come do replace 1988 Specialized Rockhopper and this 1991/2 Kona Explosif will be next work horse



After some work



It has different style decal then rest of I presume 1991/92 Kona Explosifs, any experts out there to clarify this?

The K looks in the wrong place. Are you sure it's not a respray? But thise look like 93 (IIRC) decals. Try the catalogue section.

I also tought repaint but paint looked original, and "K" is on both sides.

Shimano date code from crank says 1991 so I presumed 1991/2 and after looking i catalogs it s pretty close.

Kona frames sold in some European countries at the time only had a K in the oval decal on the Downtube because of a copyright issue with the company Koga from the Netherlands.

Your frames looks like a 1992 Explosif Pro.

Thanks for info Pip, there are not many Kona bikes with this style decal around so I guess copyright issue was resolved quickly.

I was thinking it was regular explosif, how can tell pro from regular explosif?

I think that the frame's tubing and geometry is identical to the standard Gold Explosif - the differences are the colour and build spec. Here you go:
