I'm trying to build up an 88' Kona Cinder Cone and at the mo' i have the frame & forks, seatpost, and thats about it...
Can anyone advise what other components made up a complete bike of this make & model from 88/89?
Cheers,
Drew

Never really a Kona expert but bikes tended to come with a groupset rather than the more modern mix and match theory. Chances are if it was Shimano at that date you may well be looking for Biopace chainsets!

Yup, think it was Shimano LX from what i can gather....not sure on the stem/bars/wheels, etc.
Need a catclogue really from 88/89.
Thanks for showing an interest though... :)

Yep - would be Biopace I'm sure. Certainly my 88 Explosif had them.

Wouldn't the rims have been something like Araya RM20's ?

Hey Drew
Take a look here - should be all the information you need.

When you've ID'ed the parts you need put a post in 'Wanted'. I'm sure you'll get some help.

Good luck!

Your frame is very rare, as 88 was the first year of Kona production, but I guess you knew that. There's no catalogue on the web before1990, but that may be of some use

The photos below are of a 1988 Cindy frame that sold recently on eBay, don't know whether any of those bits were original, an 88 Fire Mountain that belongs I believe to Heathy on this site, who might be able to help you, and an 88 Explosif because I don't need much of an excuse to post up pretty pictures. May we see a picture of yours?
