Kona Cinder Cone 1990, Suntour XCD groupset, white splatter

I bought this Kona Cinder Cone brand new from Bicycle Doctor, Rusholme, Manchester probably in 1990. From what I have read on this forum it is a 1990 spec model with Suntour XCD groupset in dark grey.

At the time I was a whippet-thin road biker, and decided that a fast MTB would be ideal for my commutes across south Manchester from Chorlton to Ardwick. I swapped the tyres for Fatboy slicks, and never took it offroad. After less than a year my lifestyle changed: we had our first child, I took a job on the Wirral which required a long drive commute, and I began the journey to being overweight mess :D. For the intervening twenty-four years the bike has lived in the cellar of my house; it looks like one or two spiders may have ridden it.

The bike is 99.9% original; the only change I remember making was to swap the front quick-release skewer for a stainless allen bolt to reduce the risk of my front wheel being stolen in the bike racks at work. The bike now has the original tyres back on it; I do still have the Fatboys.

I'm not sure of the frame size: from the centre of the bottom bracket (axle) to the seat post quick-release measures approx 19".

Whilst I have seen some lovely restorations of this bike on this forum, in truth I was never a mountain biker: the bike holds no romance for me and I will never restore it. I'm sure this bike could be a great project for someone for whom this model holds fond memories. I don't know whether to try to sell the bike complete or to break: a Suntour XCD groupset sold on eBay recently for £190 plus £10 postage!

I would appreciate any advice, Andrew

PS As I am new, to this forum I'm not sure how to / not yet able to load photos.

Re:

If it's in tip top condition then anything between 180 and 250.

If you want to make the most money then splitting is the answer but of course that takes more effort and time.
