kona 1992 mtb sizing question

Hi, I'm considering buying an old 1992 kona fire Mountain..... really want the steel frame. Does anyone know if they measured the same way then as now ?

I ask this as I am.looking at a bike that measures 18 inches from centre of bb to top of seat tube........ will this be an 18 inch frame?

Any help will be great as it may save me some cash.

If you mean today as in right now, no. If you mean today as in, say 1998 I'd say no as well. I think they changed the dimensions around 92/93 and if I'm not mistaken the FM has different dimensions to the rest of the range; it's more slack.

Anthony is the guru though so I'm sure he can help out. Also, check the catalogues, they have the dimensions in most of them.

Look in the Archive & Gallery, measurements are in there.
Centre to Top for 1992.

but here is a snippet

No, they didn't.

No 1992 Kona (at least in the UK) measured 18" from centre of bb to top of seat tube. The size 18 measured 18" from outside of bb shell to top of seat tube (equivalent to 18.75" from centre of bb to top of seat tube).

A size 17 would measure 17.75" from centre of bb to top of seat tube. However in 1992, size 17s certainly were not imported to the UK and I am not quite clear whether any were made at all until the 1993 model year.

Thanks for all the info guys..... i really appreciate it.

I knew retro bike would be the place to go!!
