This sort of uninformed comment is best kept out of the public domain because it unnecessarily denigrates an excellent bike. I have done a lot of research into Falcon San Remo bikes and this frame and fork in particular, which I have discussed with a frame builder of that era and there is no doubt in my mind that the fork is original. I think this forum is a great place, but it is not helpful to express an uninformed opinion because of the risk that it will be accepted as fact. In this case, it might seriously devalue the bike if anyone were to believe it and I would expect the owner to be upset by it. Better to ask a question through a PM if you are not sure of something.

It is not my meaning to devalue the bike nor to upset the owner. I wrote words like 'guess' and 'think'. And I base this because in that era (1963) to my knowledge forks were build with separate crowns. Also seen on the mentioned pictures even more.

My humble nomination...

I was attracted by the sound of all these gauntlets being thrown down! Here is my modest effort from 1988 - but it's got a nice story. Bought new by me in 1989, raced by me as a teenager, re-discovered 20 years later, restored with the Mavic equipment I always wanted back then but couldn't afford, including wheels built with my own fair hand, and ridden up to the top of its namesake (the Col d'Aravis) earlier this month. Brings a tear to a glass eye, as we say round these parts!

1978 Gitane

Gitane is fantastic. Why'd you ride it so little, though?

Well the problem is that I have a stupid number of bikes and don't get round to riding them all a lot and I will have to move about 10 bikes to get at this one. It had no miles on it when I bought it a couple of years ago. But you're right - there isn't a lot of point having a bike and not riding it. I am a member of the Veteran-Cycle Club (V-CC) and try to take a different bike to every ride and it's time for this one.
