I have a feeling it just you don't see 98s lowers with the canti hanger, normally you see 97 with them in this style with a hanger.

It does no have original sanctions/crown?

99s and the hydrocoil era dropped catni hanger lowers as an option.
97 tabs hadn't come along.

Edit to add sale picture for when the link dies.

Crown wouldn’t have bolts on a 98 for sure. Not on a SL anyway.

I just find it strange to have a hanger and disc tabs as I’ve never seen a pair like it.

Unless they aren’t a SL and maybe a lower end model that’s been painted.

agree, never on SL, and also at this time not for regular Judys any longer.

Indeed, and for what reason?

I'm also a bit puzzled.
The disc mount was introduced by Rockshox just 1998, with a bit of a slightly changed lower casting (a bit higher with more overlap)
At this time the Indy was the only one still available with a canti holder to my knowledge.

1998 still had the full canti option, as I said this was not offered in 1999.
I still think it's because you just don't actually see canti versions of the 1998, so never notice the tabs.
Anyone getting SL would be using V's and now trying out disc's, so other than a few random people nobody had them. Even the XC riders and OEM's would be V's by now.

It provided a crossover option I guess, found it wasn't needed and dropped it.

Deffo legit- it's a one-piece casting. Would have loved those for my Bonty- rare with a 1" steerer:(:p

I have one, it came OEM on a Merida Matts robot welded alu frame.
98 I believe. Also have a 98 SID with similar disc mount.
Surely RS made so many forks and went through so many tools, they had many variants.
Here is another https://www.ebay.com/itm/335102481463
