Joey McLoughlin’s Ex ANC Halfords Team Bike

Thought it might be a good time to share my ANC Halfords team bike I’m restoring. Frame is currently being refurbished whilst I spend valuable training hours stripping, polishing and restoring the groupset and other bits. I have taken lots of advice, but have to admit its becoming an obsession, and I find myself getting more anal about every detail so as to keep it as original as possible whilst getting it back to show condition – when I say anal having the smallest parts re-anodised and spending a fortune on a calf’s hide in orange to recover the original Turbo saddle just shows how bad its geting

This could be special! just my era! Good luck keep us up to date, best builds are the ones that take real effort and attention to detail. Top marks already on that saddle, you might have raised the bar there!

Some more goodies have arrived, new rims to match the existing, the originals where beyond use. The hubs cleaned up nicely so they are now being built up by a great wheel builder at my LBS, who’s going to use the same spoke paten & spokes.

I managed to obtain some NOS Wolber tubs. These are Neo Pro. The team where sponsored by Wolber, but it’s hard to confirm which ones they generally used. Neo Pro’s where top end from the time, so best I can do given the rarity of NOS tubs.

Cinelli 1R stem is back from being re-anodised. Had to destroy the original bars as the stem was stuck, so compromised by fitting new Cinelli Giro d’Italia, which are a remake of the originals

Looking good! ANC were sponsored by Wolber, but they rode a combination of different tubs. Top of the range service course tubs like in the link below

but they also used Vittoria like all the other pro teams at the time, they were not fans of some of the Wolber tubs due to their poor grip in the wet. Don't get hung up on tyres as it will cost you loads of money. Neo pro were an entry level race tub hence the name but they are great for this build. Hope that helps clarify. Top marks for the attention to detail, I'd love to have an ex pro bike. Look forward to seeing this finished. There's something about an exotic Peugeot...

Will you be re-chroming the frame, if you are be careful who prepares the frame for the refinish, as the tubing is quite thin and if the preparation is not done strictly, the tubing will be compromised to the point of failure.,
Most chromers strip the old chrome using mechanical means, belt sanders and such like which is a no no on bike specialist tubing.
Anyway bye the bye, hope it all goes to plan.
