I bought the complete bike of a club mate a few weeks ago after trying for over 20 years. He bought it off Terry Dolan in 1988, Terry & Joey where involved in Couguar at the time and the bike was on display in there shop. My mate bought it and rode it as his best bike for years.

Will you be re-chroming the frame, if you are be careful who prepares the frame for the refinish, as the tubing is quite thin and if the preparation is not done strictly, the tubing will be compromised to the point of failure.,
Most chromers strip the old chrome using mechanical means, belt sanders and such like which is a no no on bike specialist tubing.
Anyway bye the bye, hope it all goes to plan.

The frame is being re-furbished by Ellis Briggs, they where a 753 frame builder before the tubing became obsolete. I took lots of advice who where the best to deal with 753 & chrome. H Lloyd Cycles are provising NOS decals & making exact copies of the ones that are no longer available.

Looking good! ANC were sponsored by Wolber, but they rode a combination of different tubs. Top of the range service course tubs like in the link below

but they also used Vittoria like all the other pro teams at the time, they were not fans of some of the Wolber tubs due to their poor grip in the wet. Don't get hung up on tyres as it will cost you loads of money. Neo pro were an entry level race tub hence the name but they are great for this build. Hope that helps clarify. Cheers, yes they did use Wolber Neo Pro, Pro SP1, Champion de France ETC...As I could only find NOS Neo Pro's they'll have to do as $300 for Champion de France is far too much money. When my club mate bought the bike it had Wolber Pro SP1 tubs on it

Quite tempted now to turn my 753 Perthus into an ANC replica. Looks great. What's happened to Joey McLoughlin himself I wonder? He seems to have disappeared. I remember seeing him in the Milk Race in the late 80's.

I take it you've seen Adrian Timmis' ANC race bike elsewhere on here (and the web)? What happened to all the others?

Yes seen Adrian's its a very classic & rare bike, mine is exactly the same dating from 1997 (its date stamped on the BB shell). Looking at old video's its not the bike he won the 1997 Kellogs tour on as that had full rear chrome stays and a Cinelli iA stem.

My mate told me that when he bought it Terry told him it had been the bike built for the Tour that Joey had to pull out of prior due to a knee injury. As its the exact spec (based on photo's of Adrian & Malcolm's etc) this may be true, plus at the time of my mate buying it was in mint condition, so clearly had very little use.

The only other ANC team bike I know of is Paul Watson's, given the number of bikes god knows what happened to them all.

Having looked in detail at the frame and Adrian's they appear to be exactly the same as the 753 Perthus Pro except ours have the number plate boss, plus a few specific sponsors decals, so you could easily put a replica together. Only thing you cannot get your hands on are the orange Turbo saddles.

Restoration has got to that frustrating stage where I’m waiting for items to be returned from the re-furbishers, or re-builders. I was hoping to have it built by now, but will have to be more patient. In the meantime I’ve managed to get my hands on a genuine Assos top from the era. Cant say it was actual team issue but it’s the real deal. Link to photo attached

Good things come to he who waits – 2 phone calls today confirming my wheel re-build is done, and on there way back, plus the re-anodised cranks and chain rings. I have bought new bolts so assembled the chainset will look like new. Totted spend up to date last night and outch it’s not good lucky not much more to do. Progress photos will follow
