JIS 1" Threadless Headset

Sharpy

Old School Hero
Looking for some help here, I'm on the lookout for a headset as above, and having trouble finding one that is JIS not ISO. Dont suppose someone knows where you can get a decent one for about £30

Thanks,

Andrew. :)

M-Part do one that comes with both crown races: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/m:part-elite ... prod33893/

I've seen it advertised for less elsewhere: https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/produ ... CHMQ2SswAQ, but the description at the other sites seems to be wrong; might be worth phoning and confirming that it comes with both crown races.

Or, you could do what I did, bodge it by filing down the crown of the forks so that an ISO headset crown race fits. :?

Also, keep an eye on the stack height. The steerer tube on the forks on my Marin was cut so short that I can only fit the lowest stack height headsets available. Which generally means the cheaper steel ones with caged ball bearings, rather than the nicer alloy ones with sealed cartridge bearings.

Thats a threaded one :), I dont really trust M:part, bought a cheap 1" threadless one, came with two crown races and both were 26.4, so were useless. Maybe thats because it was cheap though :D

They are really quite hard to find, eventually I imported one from the States, have a look on Ebay.com
Edit:sorry, I bought a threaded, did they make threadless JIS?

Tange used to make a couple, although where you'd track them down I'm not sure.

Hi,
I'm in the same position. Did you get the correct JIS headset? If so what exact sort was it please?
Cheers, Graham

Tange Levin is easily available and a lovely quality headset as loose ball ones go. Dura-Ace 7410 are not difficult to get either (though pricier) if you want a very robust and maintenance free cartridge bearing unit, and are the equal of anything else on the market for quality.
