Jimbog’s 95 DBR Axis TT Titanium build

Just checked the Mavic Brochures.

1996 they don’t appear.

1997 they appear

So it’s fair to say they came out in 1997. Likely why not many bikes had them fitted as standard until 98.

97 wheels on a 95 build wouldn’t be a issue for me as I don’t mind a year either way of the frame date. So 1 extra year isn’t much. However …. I do think they look far more modern than 97 hence me only using mine on a 99/2000 builds.

I’d also add they are a light wheel, but if you plan to use it. They are fragile. XTR on X517 will outlive it

Thanks for doing the research mate. I can live with 97 spec stuff as it would have been a period correct “upgrade” for somebody adding new bits to a 95 bike. I had already thought about the durability as I have a couple of spare crossmax rims where the rims have cracked around the spoke eyelets or the spokes have pulled through. At my current weight of 17.5 stone I am a bit conscious of this, although I’d probably be only using this for tow path/riverside rides and nothing heavy. Will offer both wheels up and make a decision 👍🏼

Spinning spokes are also an issue too.

I think they are great wheels don’t get me wrong (but I don’t ride them much).

I’m quite a bit lighter and managed to damage a rear Crossmax doing a local ride on cycle paths. It was likely failing anyway but I finished it off without doing anything al all
