IYO - what are THE best Cantis?

Ok, I have had enough of my cx bike not stopping. I have had a go at setting up the modern canti's (shorty 4's) and so have some technically adept people, and they are still scary when coming up to junctions down hills.

Klein Chris swears by M950 V's on road sti's. Bit squidgy but work well. But I'd prefer some cantis.

So, what are the best cantilever brakes out there?

I'm talking POWER, not pimp. Although, nice looking, cool and prefferably black characteristics wouldn't be ignored... ;)

M900?
Scott SE?
XC Pro?
Grafton?
Paul Comp?
Boggo Avid?
Others?

Your opinions please.

grafton if you know how to set them up, otherwise M900.

and relatively available I should have added.

One vote for M900 then. Thought they might be the answer.

Had the LX ones on last year. were ok, but i want MORE POWER.

Its all in the pad material and leverage - remember that Nishiki I rode at the Peaks?

They were standard DX cantis with roadie levers and they hauled 14 stone to a halt on some very steep inclines.

Get the mechanical leverage right and it wont matter what brakes you have.

As he said.

Set the arms wide and the straddle low.

Best I've used are the Avid Tri-align's I have on the Lloyd - but that's due to my awesome set up :p

maybe this is where the shorty's are lacking as they are mini v's with tension rods rather than springs and are set close to the rim with v pads. very upright with a high straddle. feel great action, but in use are about as much use as the proverbial choc teapot.

Whatever they are I've found forged best, even if its just that they seem more solid. What about some black M730's non low profile. I have these with ritchey pads and they are as good as anything IMO.
