Hi there, my 8 yr old son's BMX picked up for very little on gumtree last month, he loves it obviously. Covered in matt black paint, think it was gold or chrome once. Only changed tyres and pedals thus far. Wheels have been painted black including the rims which does nothing for the already poor braking! One Piece crank needless to say. Any clue what it is, anything interesting about it,

sorry to say it's not a GT and is just a late copy style that most seem to think a freestyle bmx looks like

right if you look at the brakes - they are very basic - just pressed metal and need to be binned - this is one of the probs why the brakes don't work

a new set of good brakes / brake pads will be a lot better

you can change the one piece crank for a 3 pc

the rest you could strip and paint how you like

put the bars in line wih the forks as that is the best geometry for them to be at - gets the best out of riding

Thanks for so swift a reply, can i assume any BMX specific rear brake would work of similar design but better construction would suffice. Hopefully not different drop sizes as in road bikes ie racing compared to touring clearances.

Handlebar position, do i move grips forward or back from existing position to achive best position.

All bmx brakes, within their own type, are similar sizes. You can fit any rear brake of that particular style (central pin ones), only thing you have to make sure of is that is a rear, front and rears have different length pins in them.

Move the bars forward until they are parallel with the forks, or there abouts.

hi the bike youve pictured is an emmelle rodeo, it was a copy of a GT but nowhere near as good or as light , it would have been in bright gold, Ive just bought one myself, just mix it spray it and enjoy it as you would ,,,, forget about names theyre all there to be enjoyed
