I never thought it would come to this, but lifestyle has a habit of making one aware, for there is a class war and now more so than has been for a long time.

It is very true that 22 millionaires in government don't need public services, which to me indicates ivory towers and with that, haven't got a clue, unless the design is to cause a class war ;

The only respect in which this relates to Class War is that the plum in mouth babies undermining these demonstrations with violence have absolutely no class.

Without getting into the wrongs and rights of it, and writing a dissertation on how I came to my conclusions, I think it's fair to make a sweeping generalisation along the lines of it being the middle classes who are often the first to mobilise themselves for change. Even our only successful revolution let by Oliver Cromwell was due in no small part to the landed gentry. So this should come as no surprise to anyone.

I think there is much confusion about class distinctions. Considering that for the past 25yrs we have been encouraged to believe that class divisions were no longer valid. Traditional white/blue collar, salaried or waged distinctions have been blurred. Coupled with the Thatcherite destruction of our industries and our communities the old Marxist definition is no longer as clear as it once was. While there is much crossover, and many of the aspirational working class would prefer to consider themselves as middle class, a distinct division is still apparent. One thing for certain is that the protesting students are not from the capitalist class, nor from the emerging political elite. Like most of us, they are at the mercy of the self serving policies of both capital and state.

I don't know how much contact those who dismiss the protesting students have with them or if they have even bothered to read any of the many statements and interviews from them, but I can guess. Like all wars, the first victim is the truth.

As for describing them as violent, the violence against property is legitimised by the fact that they are fighting against those who commit violence against people as a way of life. Without such direct actions in the past, the majority of the population today would not even have the vote and we would still be sending children up chimneys.

as for thatcherite destruction...nope sorry the unions did that in the sixties..our indistry(steel coal) were all dead and buried when she popped along.if you want to blame someone blame those who put us all in europe without asking us and imported crap cheap stuff from abroad..as for the whole working class distinction...yet again more drivel from the 1900s..there is only 2 classes...those who work and those who dont....

I don't think the thread was locked to prevent any serious discussion, I think it was closed because of mindless input from idiots. (John might correct me if I am mistaken)

gk. My mention of Thatcher and the destruction of our industries was only as explanation of the changes in perception of class distinction. You are entitled to your opinion of what caused that destruction but there is no point bringing it up here. My point is that the loss of our manufacturing industry, (however caused) combined with council house sales was imo the primary reason for the blurring of class divisions.

Where did I say "violence is good for political advancement as opposed to the ballot box" or advocate "bashing of the police". I think I say enough for you to disagree with me about without people twisting words and inventing more.

Get a #$%^# job. They're out there. People leave their jobs every day, and if you're ENERGETIC and LOOKING, you'll find something.

I got carried out of work Monday afternoon on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. 2 broken ribs. 1 broken scapula, a 4" gash in my scalp, and a concussion. I took this pic from my desk at work today. Sure, I could have taken a month off on Workman's Comp (100% pay), but I have responsibilities, and I damn well aim to meet them.

Sorry for the rant, but after the week I've had I'm up to here with sliders bitching. If you're in here, you have time to go find work.
