Is this stem cracked?

Has it been lacquered? That looks a lot more like flaking lacquer to me than a crack through the base metal.

Syncros stems normally have a high gloss polish. This one looks like it's been sanded, had the decals replaced, then been lacquered over.

As others have said, remove the stem and look inside. If it's just a crack in the lacquer there's no problem. If it's structural, you'll see evidence of the crack on the inside.

I think the stem has been sanded as there are some traces of the black paint left.

The decals looks brand new as well.

looks like the laquer has bubbled off when the stem was fitted.if the ali was cracked the line would not be round but jagged as it has a crystaline structure and when it fractures it does it like carbon fibre and goes in a big way.to get that kind of crack it would have to had a major impact and would not clamp on a tube tight due to deformation....ya stems ok .(i hope )

the inside of the stem looks fine

I also found what looks like another crack but the corresponding section on the inside of the stem looks fine too.

glad you showed that piccie...i drawn some arrows to show where there has been water ingress.the white cloudy stuff is the water getting under neath.

Hi, they are not cracks, it's simply the laquer peeling off. You could rub it down and re-laquer it.
