I got them home yesterday and all perfect 
I spoke to the lovely chap who has confirmed the forks and stem were originally on the bike from new and removed when he fitted Sus forks within a year of ownership...so they've been kept (headset,forks and stem) in his parents garage for all these years.
So this is all the confirmation I needed
I believe if the lava dome or any other model was chosen from new with the marzocchi forks a different stem was used (non cable pull type) and in more of a silver colour.
