Is This A Zaskar?

Dont think its a zaskar with that seriel number.
But then my 94 zaskar has no seriel number at all.

Thanks for all your help guys. In summary, definitely not a Zaskar, but nice bike. I have thrown in a bid but won't be going too high - there's already one too many bikes in the shed.

It has aflat cap on the end of the top tube but the serial number is new to me - ask gm1230126

That's not a flat cap....here use my glasses

H" means it was built at Taiwan-Hodaka so more likely a 1995 Avalanche or Pantera.

Then how do you know it's a 94 let alone a Zaskar? Were you the original owner? I take it it is stamped 6061 then?

Heh, I was thinking of creating an account to ask you guys what I actually had... And then I saw a thread for my bike

I've got a picassa web album with a few more pics in it, unfortunately I can't link to it just yet (first post).

It's funny, as I'm somewhat more interested in figuring out what it is now than I have been in the last 10years or so.

As has already been stated, the GT stamp at the back of the top tube is curved. It also has a "7000 series aluminium" sticker on it that seems to be somewhat more original than the Zaskar stickers. I'm convinced its not a Zaskar.

There's been talk over on another forum that it could be a GT Backwoods with stripped paint? I have no reason to believe its had the paint removed, but is there another way to distinguish a Backwoods from a Avalanche/Pantera?

Any idea what the text "B1 1061" stamped under the BB is in reference too? I can't seem to find an actual stamping of the aluminium alloy used, do all GT's have a 7005 / 6061 stamp somewhere or is it commonly left off?

BTW while looking cool, that stem can be a real PITA. You have to remove the grip, brake lever and shifter to slide it off.

And yes it does have 6061 on the drop outs.

There are other ways to tell...dropouts,, brake bridge, head tube, one bolt or two bolt hanger, color. Post a pic again.
