Is peanut butter a good lubricant?

The LX shifters I fitted to my rebuilt Lava Dome were not shifting that reliably so I decided to have a look inside.

I may have found the problem...I think at least it was smooth rather than crunchy peanut butter!

brought back some memories that - looked like the contents of the inside of a nappy. Consistency and texture - full points - but I am going to have to make a deduction for volume and the fact that it was fully contained within the shifter - 7/10.

Bananas for transmission fixes in the field used to be a thing. A ship was launched with bananas as a lubricant on the slipway in the 40's. I think this is where the whole slipping on a banana comes from.

I use olive oil for cleaning and lubing chains. It is cheap, organic, and lasts well. Olive oil is great for both, or clean with olive oil and run with Argon oil.
