Is painting Ti wrong?

Silly question really but is it?

Have been for awhile thinking about painting my Hei Hei. Have spoken with Argos who say it more than possible but irreversible as the Ti would need to acid etched :?

I do not care for adding value or reducing value as the frame is a keeper.

I was thinking something like this:

Or painting everything except the RH chainstay ala PACE's new one?


I realize part of the appeal of Ti is that you don't have to worry about scratches etc..........

Help.

Would it be a heinous crime?

I do wonder about Argos sometimes. Acid etch is just a paint and applying it would not be irreversable. You would be able to remove the paint with regular stripper and restore the original finish with Scotchbrite.

I'd go for it- look at Bas Serotta last month, painted Ti is cool!

Personally, I wouldn't. It's just an aesthetic thing with me. The metal looks great polished up, bare metal has a very " factory look " racer image while it has a cognoscenti appeal to those who recognise what it is and it's the best platform to show off those coloured components.

That s the thing all my components are dark (XTR M950) A nice bright frame would brighten things up!

It makes no sense to me that its an irreversible procedure. Go for it. I really like the look of using bare ti as a feature on the frame

I'm really surprised by the claim that it'll be irreversible -surely it can be enameled just like steel and alum.? Far from being irreversible it should be easier to restore I'd have thought..

As for whether you should or not, well titanium does look great as it is, I just love that 'elemental' raw finish and colour -but it's a delicious complement to certain colours.

I guess there is some logic to not painting it - you've gone Ti to save weight, and having the frame painted, whoah, that'll be like climbing an Alp with Jocky Wilson on your back, surely?

Unless you are counting every gram, why not though? I guess you could tint or sparkle-laquer it for something a bit different?
