Is it possible to run a 8 speed derailleur with 7 speed cog

Hi All

Im just building up my Cannondale M700 and was wondering if it is possible to run a 8 speed Shimano XT derailleur with 7 speed cog and XT thumbies?

Any info would be appriciated... Just like to know before putting it all together then finding out it will not work..

yes,make sure the screws are adjusted to prevent the chain under and over running the cassette tho

Reckon this should be a sticky....it gets asked every week at least and sometimes twice

Have any pics of your M700? I have the black with green splatter one from 90 or 91. Great bike. Extremely stiff frame.
