Is it me or are there less people taking up Mountain Biking?

I use The Force. Sonar is overrated.

EDIT: and thinking about it as an ex-submarine captain, the array would need to be in the puddle to detect an object also in it. So you'd have to stop, deploy your sonar, interpret the reading, decide if safe, ride on through or around.

Re:

My lbs tells me he is now selling more road bikes than mountain bikes. It used to be the other way round. He sells performance bikes at the top end of the market.I dont think mountain biking is dying like bmx did but something is going on.I still think that full suspension ruined mountain biking .A lot of the skill has gone out of it. There is just no artistry in simply bouncing over everything. Skill has given way to engineering design. That my 2 ps worth anyway ( Waits for the cries of derision )

You do know you can just look up where the puddles are on google maps using your smartwatch.
You do have a smartwatch right?

;-)

The last time a cyclist died on one of the roads I use it was because he was commuting at night in the rain on a bike with 25mm tyres: he hit a a small ding in the road that was hidden beneath a puddle and then an HGV mushed him. He'd have been just as fast on 40mm tyres and he almost certainly wouldn't have died.

I don't know you can jump to that conclusion. Surely you could equally posit that, had the HGV been at a safe distance, there would have been time for the driver to react and avoid the crashing cyclist?

As a cycling instructor, I teach cyclists how to ride safely on road and negotiate with other road users. I also train lorry drivers on how to safely share roads with vulnerable road users including cyclists.

The biggest thing cyclists need on road is space and time around them.

yep i like both types of bikes i own both an the hardtail is faster an lighter but i like both bikes

is it a load of balls that your nutts taking knocks an heavy vibration
increases your risk of ball cancer? i was always told it was
