Is it just me, or is Deore DX cool?

You know what, you're right. Dx was pretty cool, liked the mech logos.
As others have pointed out shimano have used the DX name on bmx stuff since back in the day.

the m900 xtr gruppo is some of the best stuff shimano have ever made . Imho definitely worth the extra ££££

But you probably know what you are doing with it though!

And retro prices make M900 affordable to the rest of us, and being retro, we don't have to race on it, hoorah!

Still want DX though

Shimano cool!

Sorry it cant only be me,can it? I cant remember a single cool thing that Shimano has ever made.

The closest is the new xtr stuff, which is kind of funky!

Functional, good value, good quality in some cases. But not cool.

ps. this is just the opinion of an old fool. And as such should not upset those people who find boring bicycle components a turn on! ;)

Cheers,Al

I think the transition from thumbies to sti's was the coolest part of Shimano but as with everything once people get used to it it is no longer cool as it is the norm.

Always been an XT man myself, Good solid no nonsense parts built to last.

DX was a no frills workhorse groupset, the best in my opinion.

sure XT or XTR is great if you can afford it but DX is a forgotton hero and as so is so much cheaper to source (when you can find it in good nick)

I had a Stumpjumper for a few months back in 96, and that had a bit of DX on it; shifters, front mech, crank arms and cantis.

I never had any problems with it

[reminisce mode] I miss that bike. It was painted in Team Pro-Circuit colours, with DX and XT mix, Pro-Circuit forks, hubs and anodized chain rings. About 24lbs, it was a real XC work horse. [/reminisce mode]

I had a pair of DX hubs laced to some M231's bitd, what a sweet pair of wheels they were - coincidentally, i now own a dx rear hub on M231 and also hope old school Hope front hub on M231, very sweet set

Deare DX is (to me at least) cool for at least two reasons:

1 - It was the "I like to ride. Hard. I like stuff that likes to be ridden. Hard. And I like stuff that works without looking flashy" groupset.

2 - The persistent rumour that Shimano killed it off because it just kept working reliably. Forever. And it was hurting their expected replacement parts business.

bit of a sidetrack, but what does 'Deore' actually mean? It appears on its own (seemingly sub-LX), then Deore XT etc. seems to be a bit schizophrenic.

It means you send money through the post and get nothing in return!!!!!!

Seriously though no idea
