Is it just me, or is Deore DX cool?

Bit in-your-face for me, like the old subtle stuff.
Likewise. The MX66 hubs are decent though, and the garish red logos come off in a few minutes with a Scotchbrite pad. You can get three Uniglide cogs on the short freehub body.

I've got one here I'm thinking of engraving through the black adodizing with a Dremel.

I thought the Red DX stuff was 96-97-98 ish re-introduction as a DH inspired groupset more than BMX.

V's and pedals flat /SPD combo pedals dont strike me as too BMX-like.

Ive put it on my smaller RTS, and when i got a Karakoram on the very cheap - it came with DX aswell

I also like STX_RC - i like the chrome colouring

and yeah ive scored some NOS BNIB red DX levers and V brakes aswell

Shimano still sell their 647 combo pedals as:

Designed for the rigors of BMX as well as off-road racers.
To be honest I wasn't paying much attention at the time, but Shimano always used DX (as distinct from Deore DX) for its BMX parts. The DX hubs that shared the red and black colour scheme with the V-brakes were certainly BMX oriented - singlespeed, 10mm nutted axles front and rear, and 110mm OLN.

yup hes right,dx were one of the 1st cassette rear hubs for bmx and the vs aswell.very big bitd when i raced and still good now may i add :D

Sorry, but just the old stuff for me. I have never related to the DH or BMX scenes, always been XC (or whatever they call it now) for me and I would love a Deore DX mech. Maybe someone has one new in a box somewhere...

The Deore DX thumbie was (for me) the coolest part ever made.

Obviously the XT thumbie was functionally better due to the alloy clamp, but i actually prefer the look of DX. It still looks good on any bike and its versatility and aesthetic charm just define the spirit of mountain biking.

Had the Suntour XC Pros and they worked like a dream, always knew which way to push them as well!

Can buy new XT Thumbies which will be the way forward if I can't find anything in good enough condition.
