Is it just me, or is Deore DX cool?

Might be my age, but I can't help wanting to put Deore DX Mechs on my retro project (when it eventually happens, no one else bid, ok?). I remember it appearing on quality kit when I had my first bike, and I have never had any, but I think I want some. Could be because they don't make it anymore, kinda double retro - old and extinct!

Anyone got any DX mechs in ace condition???

(And I know I should want XTR or something similarly expensive, but it does not float my boat!)

LX - perfectly adequate for most of us.
DX - more than good enough for me thank you.
XT - the dogs bolx.
XTR - for rich people and not worth the extra money (when new) and you better know what youa re doing or you will get laughed off the hill.

DX floats my boat a lot, although I never had any BITD. Always used LX or XT.....although never intentionally missed out DX. Couldn't afford XTR..... and the snob in me would never go lower than LX

Got DX V's on the RTS now, and they are sweet

DX looks good, isn't in your face like XT and XTR, yet it works damn well.

Exage and their various LX variations then Deore LX, DX, XT, XTR.

Then, mid 90's saw STX shortly followed by STX-RC, and Exage was dropped. STX slotted in just under Deore LX. It was then when DX was dropped IIRC.

Right. When the hubs went Parallax and gears went Microdrive in '94, the DX group quietly vanished, before popping up again as a BMX group a few years later.

Yep, and its the BMX blend of DX V's I have on the RTS. Blinkin good though

I've still got a DX rear mech on my Pace.....done thousands of miles, works a treat. Also got a DX rear hub on there too, although it's days are numbered as there's a Hope Ti-Glide going on there very soon.

Also still running the same Deore thumbies I've had since 1991...


Can't beat that old Shimano stuff....it just works
