ebay, it sucks really doesn't it? i can't help but feel like it's a massive rip off these days, and has been for a while, final sales fees, listing fees, paypal fees, they take way more than is fair i feel.

so other options? generally speaking here, not just bike stuff, is Gumtree any good? any other sales related sites?

Gumtree's alright but you have to be careful, every item I've sold has had offers to transfer funds from abroad and arrange couriers. Then there are the people who expect you to deliver because their auntie has trenchfoot and their car is on fire......all good fun if you can filter the scammers and weirdos.

I suspect it depends where you live - We are in Central Scotland and find it fantastic. I have bought and sold all manner of items and even bought a car advertised on there.

It's free, which usually means one thing.

You can only list in your own area, and the %age of nutters, chancers and fakes is unreal. That said I've sold a fair bit on it, and bought a car once.

They're gradually bringing in chargeable categories too, to list a job ad used to be free, now it's £25, likewise with business services. I wouldn't expect it to be free forever.

I've had nothing but decent experiences around here, both buying and selling. use your common sense, and don't put yourself out for anyone.

LOL at Hammy :)

I've never sold however bought a few things, one Including a coat which was collected from the seller and another occasion where I bought some cycling shoes and had them posted by the seller. As others have said just be careful as there is plenty of a scams going around where someone is in a wheelchair and needs something posted for their orphaned nephew ( Other Sob-stories used ).

+1 for the added weirdos on gumtree. However everything I have actually sold has gone well with the chosen buyer.

I even had one nutter dictate to me the price I WAS going to sell him at. He totally lost it a few days later when I told him i had now sold the item to some nice lad for the asking price.

Re:

hmm think i'll give that a miss then. just can't be bothered with the hassle but ebay is now so expensive to use.
