Iirc, on the avid ultimate levers, the adjuster isn't threaded in, it slots into the lever and adjusts within itself if you get me. Very much like the inline adjuster I guess.

There better suited for shift duties because a turn doesn’t go very far. Get your brakes close then twist barrel.

For the barrel adjusters (or just as stops), there are some very nice brass ones available for frame gear adjusters.
M5, they are designed with a stainless spring, but you could have a plain brass M5 nut to lock it. Un-slotted, though

I got mine from Peter @ Ceeway, and have a few spare sets if you're interested.
