Is c2c possible on a rigid bike... with 1 gear or am I mad?

I lived for 5 years in allendale, not far from there and yes do it. As said, I think the trick will be choosing a gear that's right for the railway line descent from consett to tynemouth. Pic wisely and you'll be quicker than a quick thing.
