Info on a Dawes Fox

Firstly appologies if this is a dumb or common question, but I'm struggling to find any details on a Dawes Fox that I've just aquired.

It looks like a Galaxy, but I assume is a lower grade of steel tube. It has no reynolds sticker. Only identification is a white "Dawes" sticker on the downtube with "Handbuilt" in italics clipping the end of the "s". It also has a small "Dawes Fox" sticker on the top tube. Head badge is a small black/silver oval. Its currently a darg green with SS Mudguards and 5x2 chainset.

I'd like to know roughly what model year it is and any details about its spec. The wheels have recently been changed to a newer style, but still fitting to the bike. I'd like to to respray it in an old English white colour, but what colours were these originally made in?

This is my first venture into an old bike and brings back memories of my 80's Peugeot premiere.

Thought I'd upload a picture to show the bike in question. I'd be grateful for any help learning about the bike.[/img]

I have a Windsor which I have many of the same questions about! Seems that people are only interested in the Galaxies, but I really like mine. I'm out of the country at the moment but if you PM me in a couple of weeks I'll get you some pictures.

Mine is brown and gold fade top to bottom, 12 speed with 600 and Biopace rings, 27" wheels and large flange hubs.

I once owned a Dawes Fox, and somewhere I might still have a Dawes brochure featuring the Fox but it may have been lost for good.

Anyway, the Fox I had was originally bought in 1982. From memory, here are a few 1982 Fox facts:
  • Plain steel frame (nothing fancy)
  • Forest green (as pictured) or a lightish blue colour
  • 5 or 10 speed gears (mine was a 10 speed blue model)
The Windsor may have been the Fox's immediate successor but I'm not certain about this.

Hope that helps!
