Inch 1/8 -1”

Hi guys , I have an early specialized m2 . (1992)
It has a 1” head tube .
Is there anyway to make a 1,1/8 fork fit? There doesn’t seem to be many forks with 1” steerer tubes available

I dont think you can get a 1 1/8 in a 1 inch head tube. Well you can, but no headset I know of will allow it to work.

Can’t speak for all bikes, but one I did recently was a 1”.... wanted to use a 1-1/8” fork... the bigger fork barely fit inside much less having room for a headset. But, that was my bike

This only works with american/bmx 1" head tubes. It's already very close to 1-1/8", can be reamed to fit, or with some creative cup/race swapping can just work as is.

Usually what's going on if you see a klunker thing with a modern fork.

Have you thought about Pace forks? the steerers can be swapped out on the older models so even if being sold as 1-1.8" you can put a 1" steerer in it with a shim from Pace.

1 inch forks are out there. As mentioned, pace forks with the removable steerer. You can get 1 inch crown versions but 1 1/8 with the shim is more versatile.

Others are put there too, you can get exotic carbons in 1 inch, and rigid pace too.

I had some Judy sls in one inch at some point, also seen sids, marzocchi and manitou.

Not all easy to come by, but patience and a wanted post on here will likely yield you some options.

Yes, the above is a good suggestion and one i forgot to add. A wanted ad on here is probably the best bet, there will be no end of 1" forks lying around in peoples sheds.

As already mentioned: it won't be easy to find one but it's definitely not impossible. I have a 1st gen Sid on my Ritchey and I recently came across a 1" steerer for a Rock Shox mag 21.

Thanks for all your ideas ! It’s certainly got me thinking. Great knowledge on the pace forks, I know they are great. I think I’d like to see a classic rock shock on it though ! I will have a look through this site and might find some solutions on here! Cheers guys .

One option you could pursue, which I did once for a project was to find the fork of your dreams,likely to be 1 1/8 with a pressed in rather than a removable steerer, and have an engineering firm (or resourceful RB member like I found) to press out the 1 1/8 steerer and machine up.and fit a 1 inch one in its place.

I had things done on a lawwill leader and a Judy fsx fork and whilst I wasnt changing the steerer diameter, the originals were too short to use on the frames I had. The result was the forks i wanted with appropriate steerers.
