I'm done building!

I used to love building bikes but not built one now for over 2 years, I just ride my modern boardman instead (2300 miles last year) and get my retro fix here

I had a sort of monopoly on 2nd hand bike market at the beginning of this millenium. Gradually a huge collector and his servant became more and more committed to litterally buy everything and elsewhere in the marketplace more people showed up who discovered collecting and restoring vintage bikes is actually a quite cool thing to do. It certainly is, but I could opt: fishing in eachothers water continiously, evoke anger, pay twice as much ...or look for a new hobby. Being completely new to the scene the future in roadbikes looked much more bright and an hip issue that limited my ability to go offroad made the decission easy. I discovered a completely new world.

Perhaps you're ready for roadbikes LGF

The price of parts seem to have changed, some have gone sky high others have all but crashed to zero.

Also what do you expect with the availibility, there are only so many m900 rear mechs and even fewer in Nos condition and with such a large retro community now prices will go up and availibily will plummet.

Me I just bough a NOS xt shifter form 96 but shh

Also the retrobikers tend to be horders thus restricting the flow of parts.

Retro is so in at the moment, LGF's right, prices have gone proper daft... Road & MTB.

When I refocussed and started collecting road items, the road bike availability was much better and prices lower than on the MTB market. In Holland there were more high end roadbikes than high end MTBs, mainly due to that roadcycling existed for many more decades. Now we are many years later and hipsters develloped a strong interest in everything road, so I can imagine you do not really gain as much by a refocus nowadays.
