If you don't like someones statements just ignore them.

i can't say i have noticed but then i tend to stay away from the more flammable threads. can't be bothered to read some idiots pontifications, i'm here for bikes and riding not jibberings about politics or whatever the daily mail gets someone upset about on that particular day.

sticklegs is right though, i temper everything i say on the net as it can always come back to haunt you, some of the things i have seen written on websites over the years is appalling, things people would never have the guts to say to someones face so why say it at all?

if you haven't got anything nice to say etc.

I agree to a point but some people will not alter their opinion for politeness sake, good job really as civilisation would literally collapse if everybody only said things to appease people and not what they really thought ;)

(sorry grit in my eye)

Isn't a differing of opinion what constitutes debate?

And debate is apparently what internet forums are all about so it should be encouraged?

fwiw.. I'm anti arguing and threads spiralling out of control but pro conversation and debate.. the ine's a bit fine though ;)

Now where did I put that biscuit.....

The difference comes, though, when people start arguing against the person, rather than what they've written - because they're "fed-up" with them.

It's one thing to have a difference of opinion, but entirely another just to simply manifest your dislike of somebody at every opportuinity.

Personally, it doesn't bother me one bit - but you have to say, debate has lost all sense of direction, when you can't actually address what somebody has to say, and replace it with simply arguments against the person.
