I am similar. I get why you build it back to its original spec but actually most of us back in the day upgraded and upgraded and upgraded, bikes never remained original. Anyway I look forward to this. Looks like a large frame?

Yea, I think its a large. That steerer tube is so long, I will have difficulties finding a new fork, should I ever decide the Judy doesn't cut it.
And I have to find a new headset with lower stack height, cos the one that is in there now is too high and the stem does not overlap enough.

First time I rode the bike to work, the brake cable slid out of the onza chill pill. I really tied to fasten it, but no matter how hard I tried, it kept slipping. I guess it was due to the fact, that those hangers were made for 2mm cables. Witch one can no longer buy. Also the breaks were squeaking very much. So I made the decision and threw on a set of Maguras instead. Sadly, the older "double clamp" type Break levers do not work with the XT SL-M739 shifters. And the only newer set of Maguras I had laying around was half polished, half painted red and not altered at all in the back. No time to do anything about that, as I am travelling to lake garda next week.
When I took the bike to test the new brake setup, I managed to pop the dampening cartridge of the Judys. Luckily I only had about 2km to limp home.

Oh, and did I mention already that my nice looking plastispoke back wheel poped a spoke, also? Gees, what a week! :facepalm:

As far as I know the rear wheel of the SPOX has 32 spokes (just the front one has 24 spokes). I do have a set and I count 32 spokes in the back, way easier to find a replacement rim. (I do have a suitable replacement somewhere in my storage).

I did manage to find a 24 hole front rim for mine but it took a while. I got my SPOX set off e-bay for super cheap because the rims were toast (the rear one) then I upgraded to Bontrager ceramic rims. Let me look this weekend in my storage, I think I have the 24 hole original front rim which wasn't destroyed like the rear one (used but still useable).
Let me know if you're interested. Those wheels got a bad rep back in the day because they used shitty Chinese bearings that would constantly crap out, and they were/are a pain in the behind to true/work on. Once dialed in and sorted out with new quality bearings, they're actually decent, light wheels (I tuned my rear wheel with an XTR m950 Ti axle and free-hub, now they're as light as a set of Crossmax).

E-bay, somebody was selling Keith Bontrager's stuff that he had in his garage in Santa Cruz and there were two NOS ceramic rims one 32H the other 24H. One was a Valliant, the other one a Mustang Race model, cheap too. Proper retro that is (might have been prototypes?). The swap was a huge pain, I had to ream out the eyelets on them in order to be able to fit the thicker head of the SPOX spokes through (a weekend of cursing whenever the reamer would snag and start spinning the eyelets in the rim).
