'I sold something to Sithlord but it never arrived' thread

Interesting stuff from Harry and Rob and news to me. Goes to show it's always worth dropping me or one of the other mods a PM if you think something unusual might be going on. With hindsight there may have been some unusual goings on here for a while but it has taken this second 'disappearance' for many to come to light. It's hard to act on something you haven't been made aware of.

The legal threats are of little concern from this party (along with those made from others), however I felt it worth mentioning.

I'll let this run for the time being but let's keep in to the point as per HBs suggestion.

About a year ago I started a thread based on moderators' perks because I suspected that an un-named moderator seemed to be getting a lot of good items before other people had a chance. Apart from one or two responses I was told by everyone that this couldn't happen and I was being paranoid, so I gave it no further thought.

He wasn't averse to deleting posts he didn't agree with, so it's not unreasonable to assume he deleted, or withheld, "for sale" threads in which he was interested.

One perk is dealing with tosh like this on Boxing Day. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, it gives people 20/20 clarity 'eh? The individual in question was a classified mod briefly and hasn't been so for a long time. Further his future involvement in the site would seem untenable at this point. I am unaware of For Sale threads being removed, if they were and anyone has concretre info I'd like to know. Heavy handed moderation from this individual did probably occur, I'd concede that. As for withholding threads that is simply not possible for any moderator or admin (i.e. me). The existing moderating team put a lot of time into the site and always strive to deal with everybody fairly and equally.

I've had no dealings with this individual but I would strongly urge all of those who are on the recieving end of this to collect all the evidence they think is relevent and take it to the police.
They are acting on cases like this more and more and on other forums I've heard of people getting custodial sentences if found guilty.

At the very least it'll make it harder for something like this to be repeated.

a very long time ago , probably 2005 or 2006 , before Si joigned the retrobike he was selling stuff on singletrackworld . some modern , and a nearly complete campagnolo Record OR groupset . i agreed to buy the groupset for £50 or £60 ( that was a bargain ) . took ages to post , and the lynching mob started on stw as none of them had received their stuff . Si mentioned illnees and other very serious reasons for delays ( lost child during pregnancy ) , not the sort of stuff you would lie . he came good in the end , and had several good transactions with him since then . he joined this site a year or so after .

if the above allegations are true , it is very sad he s gone this way .

a "friend" of mine is a pathological liar, and he'd cheerfully tell you his mum had terminal cancer if it meant he could hold off paying money he owed you for a few days, and i'm only talking about £50 here

just because someone's story is big, doesnt mean you should believe it.

I should imagine the mods will lock this but it could be an interesting exercise.

I know I'm not the only one to have experienced this...are there many others out there?

Quite a while back I bought Si some STi shifters for him as he said his PP account was empty. When they arrived I shipped them straight to Si who by then had reimbursed me.

According to Si they didn't arrive and silly me, I didn't send them recorded.
I was pretty put out by the way he was so quick to ask for a refund, especially as I had done him the favour of up-fronting the money in the first place.

It has always niggled me and to be honest, I never believed him.

So, was my experience of the only lost parcel EVER in a few years a sending stuff all over the world just bad luck...or is there a pattern here?

BTW Si, if you are reading this and think you can take legal action against me, bring it on!

I am not jumping on the bandwagon but in line with the question above, yes, I had a similar ocurance :-(

I didn't go public as I got it sorted - after lots of pm's etc :? I even found a picture on his build thread of the part I had sold (modified / easily spotted) so copied it to my pc as evidence. I never let on I had it and didn't use it, my parts turned up - he found them hidden in the BBQ by the postie ... :? from i think this was after the picture was taken

As I was quite new and he was well respected, I needed to have all the evidence / facts before going public / getting shot down :-(

I have only had one other problem on here and I got that sorted after going public but not naming the seller.

I can see what's going to happen to the next new user that signs up unknowingly with some random starwars name ...

There's no bandwagon fella, just trying to see if there is repeated occurrence of events whereby the person formally known as Sithlord (I have a special non-family non-forum friendly username for him) has declared items sold to him as not received.

Apart from myself, Rob and now you I did know of another but I don't remember the forum member.

As far as I am concerned, my fears have been confirmed.

What a complete (add your own expletive)
