So my '95 Kilauea SS finally got out for its first ride the other day and WOW! It may have been a typical Scottish day i.e. bucketing down with rain and yes my thumbs were completely numb from the cold and my feet were soaked despite the seal skins socks i was wearing but hell did i enjoy myself!! Absolutely hammering it along (as much as is possible on a SS) with a grin from ear to ear to the point where my face was sore. Why oh why have i not had a SS before now? :D

Totally agree...

been a convert for over a year now, I have to force myself to ride my geared mtb. very easy upkeep and clean looking love my 95khs SS

SS

I'm thinking the same as you then KHS, i've got a Hummer i've spent thousands on recently and its just sitting there in the spare room glistening whilst the Kilauea is covered in mud :D

I know you singlespeed guys are all converts and I confess that I have not tried a singlespeed but for me, powering over the crest of a hill whilst changing down to pick up speed is one of the best bits about biking- I don't know that I could give that up. :?

i'm too lazy for a s/s. i like to just cruise up a climb slow time saving all my effort to hammer down in the big ring! it's the way i've always ridden and i'm too lazy to change! like my sig. says i'm " surrounded by a wall of can't be arsedness and i just can't get over it". I also enjoy the downhill singletrack speed too much!

I really enjoy my SS but it could never be my only bike. It's like any new toy and the novelty will wear of eventually... but until it does enjoy the huge grin.

My mouth usually hurts from grinning after every ride

Welcome aboard the good ship ss!

I have been doing the dirty deed for over 8 years, and cant honestly remember my last geared ride.

It is the most liberating thing you can do on a bike in my opinion.

I live in Cornwall, and back when the back wasnt as stuffed there realy wasnt much of my area that couldnt be rode!

I hope you have many years of spinning past geared riders ahead of you.

Much respect,Al

theres a time and place for a SS, but at the right time and in the right place, its great fun!
No way would it be my only ride though. In fact, I keep switching my SS to gears to make it more useable :?
