Hush please..... some respect is due for Shimano XT

Best bike stuff in the world.....I have 15 xt kitted bikes from 1988 to 2009....robust, user friendly......just great, love It.....m730 with thumbies and slr's......perfect.....:D

XT M739/40 is my favourite groupset. obsessive about the shifters and i love the cranks and rear mech.
this is one groupset i would happily spend some savings on if i found a NOS stock of it! :p

just a lovely combination of function, form and robustness :)

exceptionally pleasing to ride with and takes all the abuse without as much of a mutter of a complaint.

M737 front and rear mechs...just love em. I have been using the same rear mech for about 18 years now....just need to change the jockey wheels now and again. Tried an XTR on the rear, but swapped back within about an hour!!!!

And I have XT Hollowtech 2 cranks and BB...the guy in the shop said, I should spend a few extra quid on the Hope BB as the XT one wont last ONE muddy ride!!...hasn't done massive miles, but has seen lots of mud, water and dust...still super smooth.

I'm really feeling the XT love guys.

My favouritest XT is probably M730 or M735 but I also love the just before current M770. To be fair I can't comment on XTR performance as the only XTR I've ran/run is an M970 rear mech and CN-7701 chain; I guess I've never felt the need to 'upgrade' from XT and part of me is still stuck in 1991 when XT was still top-dawg. My mate rides a 2006 bike which he's asked me to tidy up and service.. it needs new rings, bottom bracket, chain and cassette so I had a look at what deals are out there.... bagged this M770 crankset (incl. BB) and cassette and XTR chain from Evans for 200 sovs (they price-matched CRC).... absolute bargain!! Dread to think what that little set up would be if it was complete XTR and more's the point would it be even worth the extra?

My first XT purchase was in '91 when I bent my DX rear mech and replaced it with a 732.
Instant love!
It was the first step along a 20odd year path.
That first piece of XT saw the same bike end up with a matching front mech and thumbshifters. They were bulletproof.
I sold that bike and didn't replace it for over 10 years due to health problems, but in 2003 I bought a long awaited commuter clunker and just couldn't help myself from fitting XT to replace the worn parts.
By then, my LBS was referring to the m750 parts I was buying as 'retro' Ha!
It's full circle again though, that new old stock m750 rear mech I bought in '03 is still mint and has seen its way onto my current kona build. All it's needed after 9 years service is a good scrub and it's back in the game!

Decent quality and not the price of XTR! I have experienced many an XT groupset and loved them all! Sram, Suntour you can keep em gimme XT anyday!...my particular fave is the XT STI's of the early 90's as in the Marin pic... Although I have found some of the more modern XT to not be as "robust" works flawlessly but wears out quicker!

Have built up an XTR M 900 and run it XC good but the 'likability' factor goes to XT.

For me XT is the original top range kit that we all talked about in the late 80's. The gold 'XT' on the mechs just set the logo off.

I now have a bike with full XT with a sharkfin.

the sharkfin is the most memorable and unique item in XT - I met an old bike friend from 20 years ago who is now into downhill but the sharkfin was reminised about in great detail.

Modern XT after the M730 days is just not 'cricket' for me.

My first bout of upgraditis was a 2nd hand Deore XT short arm rear mech for my Deore equipped Stumpy. The current XT at the time had the "XT" in gold, so I got some gold paint and upgraded it!
