Primus stove. This has been around since the late 1800s more or less unchanged. The design worked then and is still the same now. Proved often by the roaring presence of those original stoves. The above was grabbed at random and is a very small one.

I love the things.

only stove to work in sub 0 temperatures when we camped up in Oban in mid winter. We ended up making porridge for most the campsite that morning.

I had a gas stove with me too, that didn't work (to cold).

I've got similar to the MSR above now as it's just a bit easier to carry, but still love my paraffin stove. (also got a SVEA 123 that's pretty awesome).

trangia stoves are fine, as long as you insulate them from the ground, the wind, the cold.....

Terrible teenage backpacking memories of Trangia. Not only was it like trying to cook with a couple of candles, but some stores refused to sell us meth’s.. (I didn’t look that rough!).
The Dragonfly above is like a Bunsen burner in comparison.
