How many is too many?

Bikes are like shoes, I have one to match each outfit..

But using Kevs list...

Retro steel/Ti rigid MTB - Explosif & Alpinestar & Rockhopper
Retro steel/Ti hardtail - Lemond Ti
Retro SS
Retro FS
Retro Garage Queen - None - all should be ridden..(ok the Lemond)
Retro Road
Retro Cross
Modern Hardtail - Carbon Alpinestar
Modern XC FS - Santa Cruz Superlight
Modern DH FS
Modern Road - BH Oquina
Modern SS
Modern Cross

So I'm short 7 bikes.. but have 3 in one category... confusion reigns

Oh no, using Kev's Klassification (like Dewey Decimal but for bikes?) I only hit 4 categories but have multiples in each.

This is serious, clearly need to consider a buying and selling frenzy to ensure a versatile and varied quiver (probably golf bag is a better analogy with 13 'clubs', and a mashie niblick)

Retro steel/Ti rigid MTB/ fire mountain, stumpjumper,Shogun trailraker 1
Retro steel/Ti hardtail/ Muddy fox couirer comp.
Retro SS
Retro FS
Retro Garage Queen - your choice/ my killi flyer although thats a steel ht
Retro Road
Retro Cross
Modern Hardtail
Modern XC FS / S-works epic
Modern DH FS
Modern Road
Modern SS
Modern Cross
+Modern Ti HT / Global
+ Retro Bmx / Raleigh Burner

I have:

1993 GT Zaskar LE - hack/ work/ everything bike

1994 Fuji MT SX - retro refurbishment special

1989 Stumpjumper - pub bike

2006 Claude Butler Dalesman - I just look at it, cant bear to ride it as I dont own a faded orange cagule...

Is that too many?

Don't worry Ed - there is a cure and multiples within categories can be justified, eg Shimano/Suntour/Campag builds, frame material etc

I'm also talking the talk but not walking the walk but will endeavour to set a good example and resolve the issue this year

About 6 built bikes in the living room, plus 3 in one closet and 3 in another closet along with several frames (Kestrel, Bonty, Zaskar, GT RTS) and a couple bikes that my parents are kind enough to store in their house...so I can go riding when I visit....been cutting down by selling some bikes & parts at swap meets too.

7 bikes spread between the house and garage, plus boxes of spares and tools.

There are still 3 retro bikes i'd like to own, although one of the current bikes is probably gonna have to go.

I'd also like another modern, i think based on this 11 is too many but 10 is perfect.
