Can't really tell, but one time they barely fitted in my garage:

Funny how these bikes on the pictures above are already a distant memory as they are sold on since. Currently I got about 30-40 framesets and roughly enough parts to build them up. Some "keepers" aren't the perfect fit me for me sadly, but they are rather nice rigs anyway. Vastly curbed down the purchase rate lately as most itches are scratched now and several projects are stalled due to laziness too.

I tend to buy rare(r) & obscure brands/machines every once in a while and even the youngest ones are past their 25th birthdays. Old fine steel and oldschool Ti are where it's at for me. Marin, Breezer, Sunn (Morati), Diamond Back, Scott, Bridgestone, Panasonic are my favourite mtbs, and I still try to collect the various exotic tubesets of yesteryear as greedily as ever.

I've no idea exactly but would guess somewhere around 200ish. Currently have 14 rideable and could probably whip up 2-3 more from the stash. :)

It's funny, I compiled this a couple of months ago as I was having the same discussion with a colleague. Ones marked with * are the ones gone that I wish I'd kept or that I still own and will keep.

Here goes:

Current built up bikes in use:

Orbea Arama* (brilliant, dependable, practical)
Santa Cruz Roadster fixie* (love it/ugly)
Chickens CXR cross bike (maybe perfection)
Basso Diamante SV disc (fast)
Spooky Pitboss (an experiment)
Ventana 26er gravel fixie (fun and surprisingly not awful)

Frames:
Spooky Supertouch* (best bike ever)
Cyfac Nerv Carbon (very fast and comfortable)
Zunow Beradonna 650c/b (finally, it's great)
Chickens 29er (very fast/stable/bit dull/sentimental attachment)
Spooky Bandwagon (dented and bent)
Gary Fisher Cronus (tatty from the tip)

Gone:
Opera Leonardo 2003 (good but too big)
Condor Terra X (solid, a bit dull)
IF early 853 deluxe golden one (fun)
Impala (given as bike to Theo)
Basso Tera (hard to say/mixed feelings/its speed redeemed it for a while... ultimately too tall/ugly)
IF 853 deluxe custom (funding Jon)
Yeti FRO 2004 (not as nice as it should have been)
Principia Tri Aero (rim brake)
Time VXR (too nice to ride)
Stoemper Ronny* (broken)
FTW Crit Killer (too small)
Boxer Cross (rash purchase for paintjob)
Principia RS6 (very poor tyre clearance)
Orbea Terra (too big, claimed to be made in Spain but actually made in China)
Alan Cross Xtreme (sold to friend in need)
Litespeed Cohutta (miss it a bit/bit dull)
IF Planet X (dull)
Nicolai Argon FR (unbelievably harsh/heavy)
Brodie Romax Team cx (bored/rim brake)
Opera Il Canova (too tall)
Sinister Ridge (kinda great, heavy, harsh)
Spooky 29er* (favourite mtb ever, miss it)
Spooky Dirtcrab (too small)
Spooky Bandwagon mk2 (too brutal)
Spooky Skeletor (finger fell off/mental scars)

Fat Chance Buckshaver* (miss it)
Lynskey Backroads (too tall/dull)
X-lite Ti (rim brake)
Marin Team Titanium (rim brake)

Raleigh road bike 27" wheels (too profitable)
Raleigh Burner (extraordinarily heavy)
Yeti FRO steel yeti blue (miss it)
Yeti FRO steel blue/black (bent)
Raleigh Striker (i was a child)
Unknown trike (outgrew it)

I think I've had around 600 through my hands, currently on my 264th official 'strip n flip' which I keep records of, about 50 before that. Before that I used to buy BSO's from eBay/paper/gumtree locally, when you could get them cheap, used to buy from a scrapyard 10 at a time, £100, fix and sell. Couple of hundred of those at least, various rubbish as a kid including Raleigh Max/Activator and something I forget the name of, Ruckus/Haro/GT BMX's, Scott, Apollo, probably 20 then when my dad used to buy them from the tip and bodge them.

Bikes I've wanted / looked at and actually bought for myself, in this order;
GT XCR2000 - bought as frame and built
Frost Red Zaskar - same
Commencal Meta 5.4 - flipped a 5.2 that I liked but was too big so got this, and never actually rode it. Not once.
Whyte 46 - similar to above, bought one to sell and liked it but sold anyway so hunted down another which I then also sold when I got an excellent offer.
Airborne Lucky Strike - my 3rd one after owning 2 others, I specifically wanted one with rim brake only. Mid build, haven't looked at it for 18+ months.
Zaskar Team x2 - bought the frames to expand my collection but never built either.
GT Bravado - same story as Whyte 46 but I bought this as a frame and am building it up. I'm keeping this one.
GT lightning - just wanted one. Completely rebuilding and keeping for the foreseeable future.
On one inbred single speed but the jury is out on that.
I've had at least 15 Zaskars, over 25 Orange Fives, 6 Soul/Bfe.

Accidental keepers;
Bought a Soul and fell in love. If there's one bike for everyone this is it.
Same with my Klosch - it's going nowhere.

Loads more I can't even remember.
