How important is a Chainstay Bridge?

My Raleigh Avanti does no have one from the factory, I'm sure the stumpy is better welded that the Raleigh

I'm hoping that the Raleigh wasn't welded at all! It would have been hand-brazed as opposed to the stumpy almost certainly being machine made.

Got a feeling it's been welded by a guy. :)

It's staying without a Chainstay. If I die because of it I promise not too sue RB. ;)

Expect a spray update on my stumpjumper tomorrow.

Mike,

the chain stay bridge does effectively shorten the triangulation of the rear end, providing for some lateral rigidity.

However, the main purpose of the bridge was for the attachment of the kick stand...if you can live without one of those, you are good to go.

cheers,

rody

It's not too important to have one; I have a bike without one and one with one too - two bikes to choose from, but I have others too. To tell you the truth I wouldn't be too concerned to have one, or even two too.
