How heavy are modern bikes in comparison?

You know, in 1993 the Breezer Cloud 9 came out for one year only with full XTR Gruppo and it weighed 20.9 pounds-cost was $3350.00 USD---BUT, that was a rigid fork steel hardtail frame. The Fisher SuperFly 100 29er that won the U.S. National Championships in 2010 under Jeremy Horgan-Kobelsky weighed 19.5 pounds with 29er wheels, disc brakes, and 4 inches of suspension travel. That bike, however, has some very trick parts, including ultralight tires good for maybe 100 miles. The stock version that you can buy weighs 25-26 pounds, and costs around $6200.00 USD. So, yes, the old saying that Less (weight) is More (as in expensive) has pretty much always held true for quality bikes.

Definitely! My bro was shopping for a new bike and went for Cannondale, we saw a Cannondale Scalpel just 18lbs and bouncy at both ends disks, 30 gears and all that, but to get there cost a lot of another kind of pounds 7000 of 'em

Imagine what you could retro-wise for a total spend of £7000???

- Apparently the scalpel was a bargain cos the RRP was £7500
